Part of the reshoring picture is that increasing foreign labor costs and better automation in the U.S. , is bringing back jobs. In fact manufacturing has brought back more jobs than any other industry in the past five years.
GE Aviation will established five new plants in Ellisville, Miss. Auburn, Ala.; Asheville, N.C.; Lafayette, Ind. and Huntsville, Ala. About two million square feet of new manufacturing floor space is being created.
“Unless U.S. manufacturers can accelerate their productivity growth, it will be difficult for them to compete with manufacturers in other nations,” said Information Technology and Innovation Foundation. “Productivity stagnation is a major reason why the manufacturing trade deficit has ballooned 53% since 2010.”
